A Descriptive Study to Assess the Level of Knowledge Regarding Precocious Puberty Among Women Residing in Selected Community, New Delhi
Abstract
An important period of physical, cognitive and social maturation of the child is puberty. Precocious puberty is a rare condition in which a child's body begins to develop and mature abnormally early, typically before the age of 8 in girls and 9 in boys. This early onset of puberty can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetic mutations, hormonal imbalances, and certain medical conditions. These children require carefully evaluation. A descriptive study to assess the level of knowledge regarding precocious puberty among women residing in selected community, New Delhi. A total number of 100 samples were taken through convenience sampling techniques from selected community of New Delhi. The data collection was done by using self-structured knowledge questionnaire and the results were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Objectives of the study were to assess the level of knowledge on precocious puberty. And to develop information pamphlet regarding precocious puberty among women residing in selected community, New Delhi. Out of 100 samples, only 24% of women had good knowledge of precocious puberty, 58% had average knowledge, and 18% had poor knowledge. In the study the mean score was 6.5, median score 8 and mode was 7. The findings of the study suggested that majority of women were having average knowledge regarding precocious puberty.
