Abstract

Background: Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBNP) is a cornerstone
of modern healthcare systems, integrating the best available research
evidence, clinical expertise, and patient preferences to improve care
quality and patient outcomes. Despite its recognized importance, the
implementation of EBNP remains inconsistent across healthcare settings
due to barriers such as limited knowledge, inadequate training, and
organizational constraints.
Objective: This review aims to critically examine contemporary clinical
approaches to advancing evidence-based nursing practice, identify
facilitators and barriers, and explore strategies for strengthening EBNP
integration in clinical environments.
Methods: A comprehensive narrative review of recent peer-reviewed
literature, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses was conducted.
Relevant studies were identified from databases including PubMed,
CINAHL, Scopus, and Google Scholar focusing on publications from
2000–2025.

Results: Findings reveal that EBNP implementation is strongly influenced
by educational preparation, organizational support, leadership
engagement, and access to research resources. Contemporary
approaches such as digital learning platforms, clinical decision
support systems, simulation-based education, and interprofessional
collaboration significantly enhance EBNP adoption. However, persistent
barriers such as workload, limited research literacy, and resistance to
change continue to hinder full integration.
Conclusion: Advancing EBNP requires a multifaceted approach involving
education reform, organizational culture change, and technological
integration. Strengthening these areas will improve nursing care quality,
patient safety, and healthcare outcomes.
