Abstract

Introducti on: The tracheostomy is a surgical airway management method for establishing a direct airway via the neck and trachea. This study aimed to gauge the extent of profi ciency that healthcare providers possessed regarding tracheostomy care.
Materials and Method:Pre-tested subjecti ve and objecti ve questi onnaires were distributed to all healthcare workers responsible for administering care to pati ents with tracheostomy and the responses were recorded.
Results: The average comfort score was 36.83 out of 50. With the objecti ve questi onnaire, it was observed that the majority of the parti cipants had inadequate knowledge of crucial aspects like extended tracheotomy tubes, tracheotomy speaking valves, decannulati on, and venti lati on for post-laryngectomy pati ents. The findings indicated that the level of experti se of healthcare professionals regarding tracheostomy care was not adequate. Only individuals with extensive experience in this discipline were capable of achieving a score that exceeded the average.
Conclusion: The importance of conti nuous educati on and training in the healthcare sector is underscored by the evaluati on of knowledge in tracheostomy care. Healthcare providers must remain informed about the most recent protocols and techniques in order to deliver the highest quality of care as medical practi ces conti nue to evolve.
